The four musicians are confirmed millennials, playing with fresh intimacy for 21st-century audiences and mentoring students who will continue the evolution of chamber music.

Frisson Wind Nonet

Founded in 2017, The Frisson Wind Nonet has recruited musicians from some of the best music schools and toured widely throughout the United States. The name ensures the spice: frisson, as the ensemble’s website points out, is French for “a shiver or thrill”; “a sudden burst of excitement.” They bill themselves as “explosive.”

Viano

Viano String Quartet with Rodolfo Leonet, Piano

What do you get when you cross a string quartet with a Steinway? A viano, according to the ensemble of that name. (They replaced the “p” in piano with the first letter of their violins, viola, and violincello, styling themselves as a single instrument, like the piano, playing both melody and harmony.)

Schumann Quartet

Not that Schumann. This eponymous German quartet, formed in 2007, comprises three Schumann brothers and a violist unrelated by birth but tightly bound by the strings of their intensely communicative instruments.

Apollo Piano Trio with Misha Amory, Violist

Formed in 1997, the Apollos are proven veterans of the concert stage (including Foy in 2019), guaranteed to reward audiences with performances consistently praised as “exceptionally fine,” “masterful,” and “heartfelt.” Their guest here this season, violist Misha Amory, is equally expert, with a résumé reaching back to the Naumburg Viola Award in 1991.

Tapestry Vocal Ensemble

Tapestry Vocal Ensemble

Bayeux or Carole King? Drawing on nine centuries of music, the Tapestry Vocal Ensemble, a 3-, 5-, or 12-voice (plus whatever number of guest artists may join them) a cappella (though often with instrumental accompaniment) feminist (enlightened men welcome) performing group (or 180-member collective) was founded in 1994 (alternatively 1995, 2009, or 2011, depending on where you land on their website or Facebook page).
